As an RYA Training Centre, Ulley Sailing Club offers everybody the chance to have a go at sailing.
Whether you’re a member of the public or a member of the Club there are different ways that you can get involved.
Every year we run an Open Day where the public are invited to come and get out on the water. For members we have the “Push the Boat Out Day” where we’d like to see as many members and boats out on the water as we can.
We encourage anyone to turn up on a Saturday from April to October if they’d like to have a go at sailing, where hopefully someone will take you out onto the water or book you onto a “Sailing Experience”. These low-cost courses are for anyone interested in “having a go”. A qualified instructor will aim to get you sailing a simple course by the end of the morning or afternoon session. A half day session with a qualified RYA instructor can be booked by contacting the email address at the bottom of the page.
As a member of UlleySC, we have quite an active year of activities and training sessions that are open to you. One of the benefits of membership is the opportunity to book onto either an RYA level 1 or level 2 course. After a couple of weekends training with an RYA qualified instructor you can gain this international certificate which identifies you as a competent sailor.
Also on the water we have training sessions that are run by the RYA; for example, Race Training and courses for female members (“Ladies that Launch”). We also have mandatory training on the water to teach our members how to use the powerboat and safety equipment.
Our younger members always get involved with the Open Day and “Push the Boat Out” days. This year, the youth section will get together on the afternoon of the fourth Saturday of every month for training on and off the water, as well as fun and games. So we’re looking for all our members under 20 to come and join in! Stay tuned for updates!
Wednesday night training in the winter brings a chance for members to brush up their sailing skills while staying warm and not getting wet, with the galley open serving drinks. These whiteboard sessions and presentations include anything from learning the basics, like the five essentials, to race tactics and extra safety boat training.
All the Senior Instructors, Instructors and Assistants are volunteers and we are always looking for members to join them in teaching others and volunteering to cover safety and help out. So if you feel that you would like to join in please contact us as below.
If you require any other information, come and see us or call us at Ulley Sailing Club (01709 372180) on Wednesday from 7.00pm, Saturdays from 10am, Sundays from 11 am.
